Safety Planning with Women Experiencing Homelessness Webinar

The National Health Care for the Homeless Council will be presenting a webinar on March 27, 2019 exploring the importance of safety planning and how violence affects the lives of women without homes. Learn how you can improve services for women experiencing homelessness through trauma-informed, quality care.

Women and families are the fastest-growing segments of the American homeless population. Whether on the streets, doubled-up, or temporarily sheltered, women without homes face complex challenges such as increased risk of sexual assault, lack of access to preventive and prenatal care, and all-too-prevalent trauma.

This webinar is a unique opportunity to gain valuable insight into the tools and resources needed to provide effective and trauma-informed assistance to women and families in the homeless population.

Two New Required Questions Added to Entry Screen in HMIS

As discussed at the July User Meeting, to questions related to client location have been added to HMIS.  Below are the questions, and a description of each.

“What city were you in immediately prior to entry into this project?”

  • The answer should be the city in which the client was “residing” (sleeping) in on the night before they entered your project.
  • Answer options will be a drop-down selection with a list of all cities in Orange County, in addition to “Client Doesn’t Know,” “Client Refused,” “Data Not Collected,” “Unincorporated Orange County”, and “Outside Orange County.”

“What was the city of your last known permanent address?”

  • The answer should be the city in which the client last lived in a permanent housing situation for 90 days or longer.
  • Answer the question by typing in the city the client last lived in permanently

New HMIS User Agreement

At the last CoC Board meeting, the HMIS Policies and Procedures were approved! All existing HMIS Users will need to sign the HMIS User Agreement when they next log in to Clarity, as we have added a line to the HMIS User Agreement stating that the user agrees to abide by the HMIS Policies and Procedures. This replaces the previous Policies and Procedures Acknowledgement Form, so there is no need to send anything to the HMIS Help Desk. The User Agreement will automatically appear upon login, so you can simply sign and save your HMIS User Agreement when you next log in to HMIS. This means that Agency Administrators no longer have to send any forms to the HMIS team for their new users!

In Person HMIS User Meeting May 30th 2018

If you have subscribed to the HMIS Calendar on ochmis.org so that our events are visible in your Outlook or Google Calendars, you may see that the event for the May 2018 HMIS User Meeting is set on May 16th. This is incorrect and the HMIS Calendar has been updated to reflect the correct date and time for the next user meeting on May 30th, 2018, from 10AM to 11AM.

The change made in the HMIS calendar may not have been pushed out to your calendar. Next week we will send out another reminder email for the in person HMIS User Meeting on May 30th.

We apologize for any inconvenience.

Scheduled HMIS Outage 2/23 6PM – 10PM

HMIS will be unavailable on Friday, February 23rd, from 6PM to 10PM while a patch is applied to HMIS. We apologize for any inconvenience.

This patch only includes functionality changes for VASH and Street Outreach projects, respectively. Please see these Knowledge Base articles for details of the changes. VASH and Street Outreach Agency Administrators will receive an email with this same information.

Reminder: AIDS Sensitivity Training on November 1st!

211OC will host a FREE AIDS Sensitivity Training for all Orange County homeless service providers on Wednesday, November 1st.  Representatives from the AIDS Services Foundation will conduct the training which will consist of a presentation and Q&A session.

Where? CASA Training Room (Upstairs) 1505 E 17th. St Santa Ana, CA
When? Wednesday, 11/01/17, from 2PM to 4PM.

We are hoping at least one representative from each of our agencies can attend this important training.  We hope that it will help us serve this marginalized population better!

According to the National Coalition for the HomelessHIV/AIDS and homelessness are intricately related.  The costs of health care and medications for people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) are often too high for people to keep up with.  In addition, PLWHA are in danger of losing their jobs due to discrimination or as a result of frequent health-related absences.  As a result, up to 50% of PLWHA in the United States are at risk of becoming homeless.

There is no need to RSVP for this event, please just show up ready to learn!
